Why should I thank Him?

When I left the office today, I was looking for a car wash. But God gave me more than that. He gave me a lesson.

My heart was broken as I passed a woman and her child standing on the side of the road with a sign, ‘Help – No Job – God Bless.’

God called me to action and I listened. But it also got me to thinking…..

        - How many times has God called me to action, but I didn’t hear him?

I know that when I call my children multiple times and they don’t hear me because they are focused on TV or toys, I get frustrated. I picture God sitting up in heaven calling my name only to look down and see me steadily focused on the task that I am trying to do. How many times has God been frustrated with me?

When I left the woman and her child, I had tears in my eyes. And as much as I was crying for her and her children; I realized that I was also crying for myself.

       - How many times have I taken for granted all that God has given me?

This morning I wanted to complain about my job, when instead, I should be thanking God for my job. There are times I want to complain about the busy schedule our family keeps, when instead, I should be thanking God for having things to do and family/friends to see. Each month when I pay the bills, I want to complain about the bills we pay, when instead, I should be thanking God for the provisions He provided for us to be able to pay them.

God took time today out of His busy schedule to teach me about keeping myself open to hearing His call and about thankfulness. It’s easy to hear Him when you are sitting in the quiet. But do we hear him in the hustle and bustle of our day? Do we take time to tell God that we are thankful for the problems that He has given us? WHAT!?!? Thank God for my problems?!?! God reminds us that there are others whose problems are greater.

So then, why wouldn’t we thank Him?

April, thank you so much for being obedient to His word and for sharing. We, as Christians, do need to be more mindful of these very things. In the book of James, we are told to count it all joy, and yes, that means thanking God for our problems, trials, and testing. I pray that after your encounter, which was ordained by the Great I AM, that the lady and her child were encouraged by your hands of ministry. I pray they received a blessing far greater than they or you could have imagined. I am thrilled to call you my sister in faith, sharing the love Christ, with those who are in a lost and dying world!
